Blended

Out of a creative drought… Comes a new body of work, where it’s important you know & appreciate the technique.

Each piece starts with an in-camera blend of 2 images within the same 35mm negative frame, created on an analog film camera.

Yep, no AI or Photoshop blends here!

All images in this new collection are from the same single roll of film.

The film was shot once all the way through, with half of the lens covered up. Then rewound. Then shot again with the other half of the lens covered up.

The result is two disparate images blended into one.

Before this, I felt like I was in a creative rut, and this collection as a whole represents an important part of my journey as an artist.

A move into creating for myself as a purely organic expression of where I’m at - mentally, artistically, emotionally.

For a while I have struggled with mental health. Now, I am learning to life with it, appreciate it, and channel it.

When I started this work, I would have this sensation of being in two places at the same time.

Like a state of transition.

Physically in one place, mentally in another.

I wanted to find an appropriate manifestation or representation of this and the challenges I (we) go through as an artist.

And there is beauty in that.

I wanted to find that beauty, celebrate it, not shy away from it.

There is intention behind every frame or half-frame that I exposed on to the film in this project.

I chose each of these frames as I enjoyed the composition of them and felt that I could use them to tell more of a story. The colour I added in post-production, painting on to the images to highlight the themes and titles of each piece.

The colour is me. Putting myself back into each frame. They represent my mental health journey.

There are four pieces in this small collection of work. Each of these is presented as a limited edition, signed and numbered print. They are printed on high grade photographic rag paper (Hahnemühle) and giclée printed by The Printspace in London - who I have used for many years.

All prints are made to order and can be shipped direct to customers around the globe.
