50+ sales

3131 BLENDED Editions Report - October

Last month I decided to release a limited edition every day of the month. Crazy, you may think - but over 50 were minted / sold.

Read on for more insights from this experiment... (writing this as much for my own records as anything else!)

The art

A BIG reason for doing this was to draw attention to my BLENDED photography technique and art, and to get the chance to explain more about it - every day.

Each digital art claim page also had a description of how the blended pieces are created. It definitely brought awareness to my other 1/1 BLENDED work, and helped to define my brand some more.

The market

We all know where we're at right now, and the digital art market is no different. It has been a challenge for a lot of artists I know to sell 1/1 pieces. An alternative has been to test out the sales appetite for editions.

Lower price point = lower barrier of entry = larger target market

I definitely feel that this market is a good time to experiment, try things out and explore what is possible. No regrets here.

The mechanism (the techy NFT bit)

I created a separate ‘mint page’ for each piece of digital art. Creating mint pages has pros and cons. On the one side, with 'lazy minting' the NFT editions only appear on chain once they are minted. Once the limit of mints is reached, they are sold out. Obviously the limit (of timeframe for minting) can work in your favour as an artist (by creating FOMO/scarcity) or against you (if people miss it).

Payment

I was keen to lower the barrier of entry as much as possible for this collection - whilst also allowing people to perhaps collect their first piece of digital art.

For on-chain payments using Ethereum, luckily gas was low for most of the month, which definitely helps for editions.

For fiat (£$€) payments, I used an integration using @crossmint via the Manifold claim page. This meant not only that people could collect if they had no cryptocurrency (ETH), but also that it enabled NEW collectors to come in.

This was huge - and it looks like this allowed for 5 new collectors to pick up their first piece of digital art!

Limited Editions

The number of editions for each piece increased over the month. Artwork 1, Day 1 had 1 edition. Artwork 31, Day 31 had 31 editions.

This gamification was an experiment and for the first 5 days it worked very well as all those editions sold out.

The collectors

Thanks to community sharing, the Crossmint integration, and cross-platform promotion (LinkedIn, Instagram, email) - there were new collectors, some of which this was their 1st NFT!

HUGE win.

As expected with editions, some friends and fellow artists picked up. Special mentions for multiple editions and repeat collectors @LordTruffington

@bthemouth

@klunk22

@Pistenbulcky

@h_khachatrian

@_Emmages

- all of whom qualify for a free ticket to the 'North of the South' festival next year in Spain (for which I am the festival director). Others include @tonyherrera, @JFireeater, @HugoFaz, @OmarZRobles. Also a new mega fan collector @hi_shadowfax who claimed 20+ editions over the course of the month.
